Restore Your Tooth’s Natural Strength and Appearance

Dental fillings are one of the most common procedures we perform to repair and protect teeth affected by decay. They restore strength, prevent infection, and stop cavities from spreading. We use composite resin fillings that are carefully matched to the natural color of your teeth, so they look and feel just like the real thing.

Unlike metal fillings, tooth-colored composite resin bonds securely to your tooth and fits into smaller spaces. This means less drilling, better protection, and a healthier, more natural smile.

Why Dental Fillings Matter for Your Health

It is easy to delay a filling if your tooth is not hurting, but small cavities can progress quickly. Treating decay early protects your teeth, prevents infection, and helps you avoid future discomfort or complex treatment. Here is why scheduling a filling promptly makes a difference:

  • Stop cavities from spreading and causing further damage.
  • Prevent painful infections or abscesses from developing.
  • Restore the strength and stability of weakened teeth.
  • Avoid more extensive and expensive dental work later.
  • Reduce sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods.
  • Keep your natural teeth healthy and your smile looking its best.

How is a cavity filled?

Step 1: Gentle and Effective Numbing

Before we begin, your gums are carefully numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure total comfort. Many patients feel nervous about this step, but rest assured, the numbing keeps your tooth and surrounding area completely pain-free throughout the procedure.

Step 2: Preparing and Filling the Tooth

Once you’re fully comfortable, your tooth is cleaned and prepared for restoration. A bonding agent is applied, and a composite resin (white filling material) is skillfully shaped to match your natural tooth structure and bite for a seamless look.

Step 3: Hardening and Polishing the Filling

The composite resin is then hardened using a specialized LED light. Afterward, the dentist will fine-tune the shape, check your bite, and polish the tooth to create a smooth, natural finish that feels as good as it looks.

The cost of a filling in North Canton

Fillings are routine, medically important treatments that help stop decay and prevent infection. Most dental insurance plans provide significant coverage for fillings.

Typical Price Range

  • With insurance: approximately $0 to $100+ out of pocket, depending on your plan benefits and deductible.
  • Without insurance: approximately $120 to $300+ per tooth, especially if multiple fillings are completed at one visit.

What Determines Your Final Cost

  • Your current oral health and exam findings.
  • The number of fillings needed.
  • The size and location of the cavity.
  • Whether new X-rays are required.
  • The clinical time and precision your case requires.
  • The materials, equipment, and infection control supplies used for your care.

At Modugno Family Dental, we focus on addressing cavities early to help you avoid more complex procedures later. Prompt treatment not only protects your teeth from pain and infection but also helps you maintain a healthy, confident smile for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common signs include sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, or a visible dark spot on your tooth. Regular teeth cleanings and exams help your dentist detect cavities early, often before you feel any symptoms.

Yes. Composite fillings are made from strong, biocompatible materials that bond securely to your natural tooth. They are metal-free, long-lasting, and blend seamlessly with your smile.

Most patients can eat shortly after the procedure once the numbness wears off. If a tooth feels sensitive, try to avoid very hot, cold, or sticky foods for the first day or two.

No. Before treatment, your dentist uses a local anesthetic to numb the area completely. You’ll feel pressure during the procedure but not pain.

Leaving a cavity untreated allows bacteria to spread deeper into the tooth, which can lead to infection, pain, or even the need for a root canal. Getting fillings early helps protect your overall oral health.

With proper brushing, flossing, and routine teeth cleanings, composite fillings can last many years. Regular checkups allow your dentist to monitor them and ensure they stay in great condition.

If you’re experiencing severe pain, it may be a dental emergency. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek and take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed. Then contact your dental office right away for treatment.

I went to Dr. Modugno’s predecessor, Dr. Bertolini, for over 40 years. When he retired, he could not have left his practice in any better hands nor would he have chosen anyone to take over his practice that did not meet his high standards. Dr. Modugno replaced a veneer that had cracked and it was a perfect match. He has a caring and professional chair side manner and takes time to explain everything thoroughly in a way that is easily understandable. His dental hygienist staff takes time with patient cleanings and makes helpful suggestions for oral care. I would highly recommend his practice.

The Modugno office is very clean and modern. My Hygienist Beth is thorough and clearly explaines everything she is doing. She gives easy to follow directions on how to keep your teeth healthy without shaming you if you have not followed those guidelines in the past.Dr. Modugno takes his time to check you and answer any questions letting you know all the options to get your teeth their best. There was no pressuring me into getting any tests or procedures done. I appreciate that they are willing to work around my comfort levels and finances. The front office is kind and has been so good at getting me scheduled when needed.

I am a former patient of Dr. Bertolini and the transition to Dr.Modugno has been great. I was in today and had my teeth cleaned by Beth(hygienist). She is very professional and nice. She did an awesome job. I saw Dr. Modugno for my exam. He is also very professional and listens to your needs and is very gentle. Elaine at the front desk is very pleasant and professional. To top it all off, I have no cavities and don't have to be back for 6 months.
